Centre for Peace and Ethics in the Age of AI at Swami Vivekananda University: Pioneering Interdisciplinary Research on AI Ethics and Peace
Swami Vivekananda University has launched a groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind – the Centre for Peace and Ethics in the Age of AI – designed to explore the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence, ethics, and peace studies. This unique research centre adopts an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together experts and scholars from the fields of cultural studies, philosophy, and AI research to investigate how the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is reshaping our fundamental understanding of ethics and the concept of peace in the modern world.
As artificial intelligence continues to permeate every aspect of human life, crucial questions arise regarding its ethical implications and long-term impact on societal harmony. The Centre for Peace and Ethics seeks to critically analyze how AI challenges traditional ethical frameworks, and how emerging technologies can either contribute to or disrupt global peace and social justice.
Currently, the Centre is running a three-month certificate course on AI, Ethics, and Peace, where distinguished academics and global thought leaders are sharing their insights on these pressing issues. The program serves as a platform for rigorous discussion and exchange of ideas, focusing on topics such as algorithmic bias, machine ethics, the philosophy of technology, and the role of AI in conflict resolution.
Beyond academic learning, the Centre aims initiate and promote innovative research activities that bridge theoretical and practical perspectives. Future projects will focus on developing ethical frameworks for AI applications, exploring the cultural dimensions of technological interventions, and proposing policy recommendations to safeguard peace in an increasingly automated world. With its mission to blend ethical inquiry and technological advancement, the Centre for Peace and Ethics at Swami Vivekananda University is poised to lead critical conversations on how artificial intelligence will continue to shape and challenge our notions of morality, justice, and global peace.
