The Department of Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology prepares technologists for the operating theatre and the intensive care unit - preparing and checking anaesthetic equipment, assisting the anaesthetist through induction and recovery, monitoring the patient, and maintaining the sterile field. Teaching combines classroom instruction with laboratory practice and supervised placement in working hospitals, because this is a craft learnt beside the table rather than only from a book.
